The Truth about the Koran Part 1

By Dr. David N Smeltz

Missionary Evangelist to Eastern Europe and Asia

As we look at the Koran we must approach it from a point of reality. In the 9th Chapter of the Koran we find the word fight nine times.  Allah in the Koran challenges everyone.  2.23":    And if you are in doubt as to that which we have revealed to our servant, then produce a chapter like it and call on your witnesses besides Allah if you are truthful. Allah declares that those who take up his challenge will never succeed.   "17.88":    Say: If men and jinn should combine together to bring the like of this Quran, they could not bring the like of it, though some of them were aiders of others. Some try to separate the extremist from the moderate.  The problem with this is that there is not two Korans, one for the moderate and one for the extremist.  Those who are of Islam must accept the Koran as the Holy Word of Allah. No other book takes president to it.

In  June of 2009 when President Barack Obama spoke in Cairo  he quoted a verse from the Koran: "5.32":    For this reason did We prescribe to the children of Israel that whoever slays a soul, unless it be for manslaughter or for mischief in the land, it is as though he slew all men; and whoever keeps it alive, it is as though he kept alive all men; and certainly Our apostles came to them with clear arguments, but even after that many of them certainly act extravagantly in the land.  What is so interesting Obama left out the next verse? "5.33":    The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement,..It is so easy for one to take one verse and leave out the follow up.  Obama who is well trained in the Koran left the next verse knowing it would bring contention to the listeners of his speech. America is heading for destruction because it is naive to the truth. All it is getting from its political leaders is half truths. The politicians are doing the same thing with their healthcare agenda. We are only getting part of the story. The rest will come when it is too late to change it. When I read the Koran I like to study like I study the Bible. What I find in the Bible is absolutes’ and consistency. God does not say he hates us in one chapter and loves us in another. God does hate sin… but Allah hates the unbeliever who refuses to come to him.  The Koran in "21.18":    Nay! We cast the truth against the falsehood, so that it breaks its head, and lo! it vanishes; and woe to you for what you describe; while in the Word of God, Ephesians 4:15 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Obama also quoted "9.119":    O you who believe! be careful of (your duty to) Allah and be with the true ones. [1]Obama used this verse to call for religious tolerance. But this verse actually is about fighting unbelievers. This verse in no way advocates peaceful coexistence.  One principal translator Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall renders the verse this way, “O ye who believe! Be careful of your duty to Allah and be with the truthful.”  The passage continues: "9.120":    It did not beseem the people of Medina and those round about them of the dwellers of the desert to remain behind the Apostle of Allah, nor should they desire (anything) for themselves in preference to him; this is because there afflicts them not thirst or fatigue or hunger in Allah's way, nor do they tread a path which enrages the unbelievers, nor do they attain from the enemy what they attain, but a good work is written down to them on account of it; surely Allah does not waste the reward of the doers of good;

"9.121":    Nor do they spend anything that may be spent, small or great, nor do they traverse a valley, but it is written down to their credit, that Allah may reward them with the best of what they have done.

"9.122":    And it does not beseem the believers that they should go forth all together; why should not then a company from every party from among them go forth that they may apply themselves to obtain understanding in religion, and that they may warn their people when they come back to them that they may be cautious?

"9.123":    O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).

The message is clear here the Muslims should fight the unbelievers and be harsh with them. The truth of the matter is it is a command to wage Jihad warfare against the unbelievers. You see those who believe the Koran must wage war all those who will not accept it as Allah’s law.  Obama picked out one verse to make the Koran as a simple counseling book. He took a passage about warfare and division and passed it off as a call for us to come together and sing “Kumbaya.”

Now, my friends it is very easy to take something out of context as I see it being done every day by preachers who have not studied the Word of God. Politician and lawyers are good at twisting the truth. Mohamed was a politician and preacher in his own day. Obama spent enough time in Reverend Wright’s church that he too is both preacher and politician, the only thing lacking on his title is Reverend and then he could join the ranks of Al Sharpen and Jessie Jackson.

Now please look at Osama bin Laden Declaration of War.

Osama bin Laden In 1996 “Declaration of War

When Osama bin Laden made his declaration of war he quoted the following scripture from the Koran

"9.5":    So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

"3.145":    And a soul will not die but with the permission of Allah the term is fixed; and whoever desires the reward of this world, I shall give him of it, and whoever desires the reward of the hereafter I shall give him of it, and I will reward the grateful.

"47.4":    So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates. That (shall be so); and if Allah had pleased He would certainly have exacted what is due from them, but that He may try some of you by means of others; and (as for) those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish.

"47.5":    He will guide them and improve their condition.

"47.6":    And cause them to enter the garden which He has made known to them.

"2.154":    And do not speak of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead; nay, (they are) alive, but you do not perceive.

"9.14":    Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace, and assist you against them and heal the hearts of a believing people.

"47.19":    So know that there is no god but Allah, and, ask protection for your fault and for the believing men and the believing women; and Allah knows the place of your returning and the place of your abiding.

"8.72":    Surely those who believed and fled (their homes) and struggled hard in Allah's way with their property and their souls, and those who gave shelter and helped -- these are guardians of each other; and (as for) those who believed and did not fly, not yours is their guardianship until they fly; and if they seek aid from you in the matter of religion, aid is incumbent on you except against a people between whom and you there is a treaty, and Allah sees what you do.

Then again on October 6, 2002

He delivered two Koran Quotations with the theme of Permission to Fight against believers who fought against him.

"22.39":    Permission (to fight) is given to those upon whom war is made because they are oppressed, and most surely Allah is well able to assist them;

"4.76":    Those who believe fight in the way of Allah, and those who disbelieve fight in the way of the Shaitan. (Anything worshiping other than Allah) Fight therefore against the friends of the Shaitan; surely the strategy of the Shaitan is weak

These are the same verses that children memorize before they can read. You tell me, is this a religion of peace?

The Truth about the Koran Part II

By Dr David N. Smeltz

What does the word Koran mean:” recitation in Arabic?”

The first command was delivered to Muhammad is in the (Sura 96) then over next 23 years Muhammad received further revelations from Gabriel. These words were transmitted directly from Allah. The revelations were compiled by Muhammad’s followers forming the Koran. According to Islamic belief the Koran is a perfect copy of the Umm-al-Kittab “The Mother of the Book” which resided with Allah. 85.22": In a guarded tablet. In Our Presence, high (indignity) full of wisdom”  "43.4":    And surely it is in the original of the Book with Us, truly elevated, full of wisdom. It is also the “wise book, a guide and mercy to the doers of good.” "31.2":    These are verses of the Book of Wisdom "31.3": A guidance and a mercy for the doers of goodness,. There are 114 chapters and they are not chronological. They go from the longest to the shortest.  The Koran is not historical as the Bible contains many books of historical value. The chapters are hard to understand because they lack chronology. It is mostly a collection of sermons. The book teaches how to deal with the unbeliever. It is also has some stores of Mohammad’s life. The last revelation came to Muhammad on his death bed and is the Sura 110.

A Quick Comparison between the Bible and the Koran

Heaven, Hell, Many Characters                        Centers around Mohammad’s life

The Koran is simply “The Book” and it provides guidance without doubt to those who fear Allah for it is the indubitable truth  "69.51":    And most surely it is the true certainty…It is full of wisdom…"36.2":    I swear by the Quran full of wisdom..The Koran specifies who is revealing this truth.. "15.9":     Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. It confers it is not the work of evil spirits.. 1.25":    Nor is it the word of the cursed Shaitan.  [2]It is totally Allah’s word without any human elements.  This   guarantees its preservation and it cannot be questioned. Historically this has made the words of the Koran on wife beating, the treatment of non-Muslims, and much more a virtually insurmountable obstacle to reform within Islam. Any reformer is branded as heretics or apostates and is frequently subject to persecution from authorities anxious to safeguard Islamic orthodoxy. It must be understood to the pious Muslim the Koran is inferior to any other book including the Bible.  The Koran is the central part of the Muslim life and culture.  In one of their introductory studies the book is called “Protective haven and lasting gift of bliss, and is an excellent argument and conclusive proof.” In addition it cures the heart’s fear and makes just determinations whenever there is doubt.  It is considered the lamp whose light never extinguishes.. and ocean whose depth will never be fathomed. Its oratory stuns reason and combines concise succinctness and inimitable expression.”[3]

Islamic Scholar Seyyed Hossein Nasr of George Washington University says the Koran constitutes the alpha and omega of the Islamic religion in  the sense that all that is Islamic, whether it be its laws, its thought, its spiritual and ethical teachings and even its artistic manifestations, have their roots in the explicit or implicit teachings of the Sacred Text.[4] Islamic scholar Caesar Farah asserts that the Koran constitutes the Muslim main reference not only for matters of spirituality but also for the mundane requirements of day to day living.[5]

Muslims believe the Koran is not only perfect but that it’s uncreated. The Koran says that Allah has in his possession the “Mother of the Book” "13.39": Allah makes to pass away and establishes what He pleases, and with Him is the basis of the Book. Allah made the Koran “In Arabic, that all will be able to understand.” "43.3":    Surely We have made it an Arabic Quran that you may understand. The Koran claims to have existed for all eternity with Allah. "85.21": Nay! it is a glorious Quran, "85.22": In a guarded tablet.

Now notice "5.101":    O you who believe! do not put questions about things which if declared to you may trouble you, and if you question about them when the Quran is being revealed, they shall be declared to you; Allah pardons this, and Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing. "5.102":    A people before you indeed asked such questions, and then became disbelievers on account of them.  Now Compare 1 Peter 3:15  15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

We must remember that the Koran does not prove it’s self. The Bible can be traced back through history.

·         39 Books   929 chapters   23,214 verses   593,493 words   Longest book—Psalms   Shortest book—Obadiah   17 historical books   5 poetical books   17 prophetical books

·         It was not until a.d. 1250 that the Bible was divided into chapters. At that time Cardinal Hugo incorporated chapter divisions into the Latin Bible. His divisions, although for convenience, were not always accurate; however, essentially those same chapter divisions have persisted to this day. In 1 SSI Robert Estienne introduced a Greek New Testament with the inclusion of verse divisions. He did not fix verses for the Old Testament. The first entire English Bible to have verse divisions was the Geneva Bible in 1560[6]
